Do Not Open The Door To The Enemy

Allow me a few minutes today to make another point about opening the door. If you recall, yesterday, I shared the shoulder-in-the-door jamb story. In the third grade, I leaned up against the door jamb, and screaming girls slammed the door on my shoulder. The girls were using all their strength to shut the door. Of course, they didn’t know my shoulder was wedged in the space between the door and the jamb. Don’t try this at home. It’s too painful.

I want to make a crucial point. Yesterday I shared a verse from the Bible, Revelation 3:20.

Let’s take the time to review that passage again. “Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with him, and he with me.”

Let me clarify something – Do not open the door to the enemy!

Make no mistake – the enemy will bang on your door day and night until you open the door and let him in. To be clear here, in case there is any doubt – Jesus is NOT the enemy! When Jesus knocks, open the door!

Satan makes every attempt to get into our daily lives and mess it up. He makes every attempt to throw us off track. The enemy goes out of his way to detour us from going to church, reading our Bible, praying, and listening to the Lord. Satan doesn’t want us to get closer to the Lord because the devil knows exactly what that means. The Lord wins and the devil loses.

Many people think satan isn’t brilliant, when in fact, he knows how the whole thing ends already, so the more people he can get on his side, the better. The more people satan can convince not to follow Jesus, the better. It’s all he has in this world. Satan knows he will be nothing when the Lord comes back.

Will satan win in the end?

The Bible says satan has lost the war, but he continues to fight the battles until that great day, bringing people down along the way. Sadly not everyone recognizes the enemy standing at the door or in their household.

A friend of mine once said, “We spend all our efforts keeping our families safe inside our homes. But we don’t do anything to keep them safe from the stuff they watch on television or their devices. We don’t do anything about video games and social media sites, or what they hear inside our homes. We lock our doors and windows at night to keep the robbers out, but we do nothing to protect them when it comes in via the electronic medium. Half the time, we don’t even know what they are watching on those little screens. Most of us can’t even see what’s on those little screens. We sit next to them on the couch and have no idea what they are watching!”

Point well said.

So as we listen for the door, and as we look for opportunities, please be sure you answer the right call. Please be sure you open the door to the right person, Jesus Christ, not the enemy.

The Bible says in 1 Peter 5:8, “Be self controlled and alert. Your enemy, the devil, prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. Resist him, standing firm in the faith, because you know that your brothers throughout the world are undergoing the same kind of sufferings.”

Have a blessed day, my friend, and may God continue to shine his light and love into your life.

In His Service,
The Teaching Lady
