How do you climb mountains? One step at a time, I’ve always heard. Climbing mountains is easier said than done.
I remember too well climbing Blood Mountain in northern Georgia years ago. The part that sticks out most in my memory is how cold it was. As we climbed higher and higher, the chill turned colder and colder. As we made our way along the switchbacks, there were times when making the turns; the wind would practically blow us over. It was so cold!
By the time we reached the top, we were human popsicles, standing in 15-degree frigid weather. But oh, the feeling of standing there in the wide open with nothing around you but the beautiful blue sky above your head and the rocky ground under your feet. The feeling was exhilarating. Suddenly you weren’t as cold anymore, but this Florida girl has never returned. I’m good. Check.
How does climbing relate to God?
The climb to a loving God is in no way cold. The closer we get to God, the better it feels. The warmer it gets, like snuggling in a warm blanket.
Getting closer to God is like a fresh spring day, a newborn baby, and flowers that open after being closed for days.
Getting closer to God is like climbing a mountain; only when you reach the top, the magnificent wonders before your eyes and the feeling of love surrounding you unlike anything you have ever known. What the world offers cannot come close.
I always tell people the closer you get to God, the sweeter the taste. Oh, to enjoy the taste, the view, and the warmth of his loving arms around you. Well, folks, I have to tell you there’s nothing else like it in this world. Nothing!
I have experienced things I know were nothing else but God. There are no other logical explanations. I have watched God work in many people’s lives, and it is a fantastic view to behold.
I’ve come a long way in twenty years, and I wouldn’t trade a single day or go back to my old life for nothing. I am a new creation in Christ Jesus and am SO thankful! I’m in love with the Lord!
How did I get to this place in my life? By climbing the mountain one step at a time and walking toward the Father one step at a time daily. It’s been well worth the climb.
Father, thank you for being with me every step of the way. I am overwhelmed by your grace for me. Lord, there may be some who don’t know what I mean by all this. Father, I pray you would do mighty work in their lives. I pray you will make your presence known to them. I pray, Lord, they will recognize your awesomeness and your glory. Oh Lord, I would be nothing without you! To you be the glory forever and ever, Amen.
Blessings,
