Welcome to The Teaching Lady blog where our goal is to share what we learn and point others to our only hope in this world – Jesus Christ. In case you are joining us for the first time, we are currently in a series titled, “Jesus Christ – Background Info.”
We are answering questions that have been posted about Jesus Christ. We are getting our answers and background information out of one of my college textbooks from my days as a student in Bible college.
Today we are attempting to answer the following question:
“How did Jesus’ teaching contribute to the fulfillment of His purpose in the divine plan?”
Let’s go to our textbook.
My college textbook says, “Jesus’ teaching is scattered throughout the Gospels. It frequently appears in blocks, some of which represented a monologue (Matt 5-7), while other teaching was apparently given in the context of dialogue (John 8:12-59).
Jesus spoke on moral and theological subjects. In the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus spoke about sexual morality (Matt 5:27-32), revenge (Matt 5:38-42), and forgiveness (Matt 6:14-15).
Jesus discussed the nature of God and His own role in the divine plan (John 12:27-36). He also presented practical instructions when He prepared his disciples for their coming persecution (John 16:1-4).
“Jesus did not organize His teaching into a system. He centered it around his own person.
The frequent appearance of the “I AM” sections in John’s gospel shows this trait (John 6:35, 8:12, 14:6). With His enemies, He used language which reflected His awareness of His preexistence and deity (John *:42, 58-59). Jesus accepted the worship His followers offered Him (John 20:28-29).”
“He taught about things like the Holy Spirit, eternal life, and security. He also promised a return to bring His followers to a heavenly home with Him (John 14:3).”
“A Major emphasis of Jesus’ teaching was the kingdom of God. Jesus regarded the kingdom as having already begun in His own person (Matt 12:28), but as yet to come in its fullness after His death and resurrection (Luke 22:16).”
“Jesus did not hesitate to proclaim the importance of his own mission. He knew that He had come to preach the gospel (Luke 4:43) and to call sinners to repentance. (Matt 9:13). He recognized that God had sent Him to offer his life as a ransom for many (Mark 10:45).”
There’s a lot to reflect on.
Father, again we thank you for Jesus and His example of teaching. Please help us to have faith like a little child. Open our eyes, Lord. Help us to see and to learn what you would have us to learn. May we be obedient in following your way in a world screaming to have its way. In Jesus’ name, I pray, Amen.
Again I would encourage you to grab your Bible and check out the verses above to see and study what the text references. See if you see the same things. And then ask yourself this question – Who is Jesus Christ to you? What does Jesus Christ mean to you, and how are you seeking him daily?
Have a blessed day, everyone.
