30 Days to Understanding the Bible – The Silence Era
In this video lesson, we look at the years between the Old Testament and the New Testament.
What were those years like?
Was God silent during those years?
Who came into power?
We will look at the political sects, religious sects, and the Messianic hope.
As we look at the silence era, we will dive into four topics of interest in this era:
- The changing guard
- Political Sects
- Religious Sects
- Messianic Hope
Some people are of the mind that God was sitting back, doing nothing during the silence era. God was finally getting around to remodeling his home or finally addressing the long list of things He wanted to do – things like addressing idolatry, poverty, maintenance of the forest, or maybe even catching up on his rest.
That couldn’t be farther from the truth because God is God. He never rests. God never tires, and just because he was silent for four hundred years doesn’t mean he checked out on the people.
What made the silence era one of the most disappointing periods were the people and their steadfast bent on self-destruction and hypocrisy.
Enter in the Messianic hope.
While some folks think God took a break from everything, I believe it was just the opposite. He continued on with His plan to prepare the world for the coming of the Messiah. This event would capture the attention of the entire Jewish world.
