Eternity – If You Died Tonight, Do You Know Where You’re Going?

Eternity. It seems far off, but for some, it’s within the next five minutes, five hours, or even five months. The truth is, we are not promised tomorrow. Tomorrow may never come, so the question remains – if you died tonight, do you know where you’re going?

Do you know where you will spend eternity?

It should be a yes or no answer. But sadly, many do not know the answer. And to those who do not know, answering the question about eternity can be a daunting thought, especially as they draw closer to the end of their life.

And yet some say, “Yes, I know where I am going to spend eternity.”

Others say, “No, I do not know where I am going when I die.”

And still, others say, “I don’t care because I will be dead.”

Here are some other responses I have heard over the years when I ask the question about eternity:

  • Heaven
  • Hell
  • In the ground
  • I’ll be burned up – toss me in the ocean.
  • Nowhere – neither heaven or hell
  • 6 feet under
  • Purgatory
  • I don’t know
  • Who knows and who cares
  • I won’t know, so what does it matter?
  • I’m coming back as someone’s worst nightmare.
  • I’m coming back as an animal.

But when we stop to consider what happens after we take our final breath seriously, are we sure?

Over the last few days, I have been feeling especially burdened with sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ. Maybe it’s because of all the world events at the moment, or perhaps it’s because God is stirring in His people to be bold and share the good news. Someone out there needs to hear the good news!

Look at what’s happening right now:

  • Earthquakes
  • Fires
  • Rumors of wars, attacks
  • Countries in dispute
  • Evil all around
  • People suffering
  • People dying

And the list goes on.

So I am going to be obedient to what I believe is being asked of me to do because you might be one of those folks who need this information. You might be one of those people who could use some good news.

Questions to consider

  • What is salvation?
  • Do you find yourself asking if Jesus resides in you?
  • Where will you go when you die? Heaven or hell?
  • What does the Bible say about salvation?
  • Have you wondered what other people have, that perhaps you don’t have?
  • Do you find yourself exhausted from running in the opposite direction away from God as fast as you can?
  • Are you missing something in your life?
  • Do you have friends and family who believe in Jesus?
  • How can people be so joyful in today’s world?

Maybe you are saying, “I want what they seem to have.”

I have some good news for you. Today can be the day everything changes.

What’s the good news?

The Gospel of Jesus Christ. That’s good news!

Right now, here and now, you can ask Jesus to come into your life and your heart. Today can be the first day of the rest of your life, my friend. Today, you can know for sure where you will spend eternity.

Maybe you are someone who confessed Jesus as Lord when you were little because of family pressures, your friend did it, or you made the decision for yourself, but you know you have not lived for the Lord at all. You are going in the opposite direction. You have been running away from God, and you are ready to recommit your life to Him today.

Why wait? We’re talking about eternity.

This is a personal decision. No one can make it for you – it’s your choice, your move.

It’s as simple as ABC

Admit You Have Sinned

Here’s the bad news: we all have a problem; it’s called sin. Our lives are not how God intended them to be. The consequence of sin is eternal death.

“for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,” Romans 3:23

“For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God  is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Romans 6:23

Believe in Jesus

Here’s the good news: God loves us so much that he can forgive any sin, no matter how big or small. God sent His Son Jesus to die on the cross to save us from sin. Jesus said if you put your trust in Him, you will have eternal life.

“For my Father’s will is that everyone who looks to the Son  and believes in him shall have eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day.” John 6:40

Confess that Jesus is Lord

When Jesus rose from the grave, he proved his victory over eternal death. God wants you to confess that Jesus is Lord of all and that He is your Savior.

“That if you confess with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.”

Jesus is Lord. This means that He has authority over our lives. He’s in charge.

Jesus’ name means Savior. He died on the cross to pay the price for our sins. Jesus died to save us from the penalty of our sins, which is to be separated from God forever.

Jesus is the Christ or the Messiah. This means that He is the only one who was sent by God, the Father, to be the King who will reign in God’s eternal kingdom. Jesus is the Messiah that God promised that He would send in the Old Testament writings.

Would you like to accept Jesus into your heart?

If you want to accept Jesus as your Lord and Savior, please say this prayer of salvation with me right now to yourself:

Dear God, I know that my sin has separated me from you. Thank you that Jesus Christ died on the cross in my place. I ask Jesus to forgive my sin and to come into my life. Please begin to direct my life. Thank you for giving me eternal life. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Welcome to God’s family

Listen, my brother or sister, that’s it! Remember what Romans 10:9 said, “That If you confess with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.”

It’s a heart thing.

If you confess with your mouth and believe in your heart that Jesus is Lord, you are now part of God’s family. You are a brother or sister in Christ!

Perhaps you’ve heard others refer to people as brothers or sisters in Christ. You are now one of those people. Welcome!

What’s next?

Babies are born every day and left to fend for themselves, so a new believer in God’s family also needs guidance. Take the next step in your new faith and seek advice from people you know are already Christians.

Get a Bible

Get yourself a good study Bible. Read the scripture every day. This will help you grow closer to the Lord. Reading the scripture will also equip and educate you on how to live a righteous life. And the bonus in reading the scripture? You will get to know God more. That’s a great gift.

Find a Bible-believing church.

Check out local churches in your area and attend Sunday school or Bible studies. Drink in all that God has to teach you, show you, and offer you. The possibilities are endless with God.

Endless love

His love is new every single day. He longs to have a relationship with you and what better way to start that relationship than to dig into the Bible, His love letters to you.

If you’re not sure how to pray, check out the tab above, “How to Pray.” It will give you some helpful insight into prayer.

Congratulations

My friend, congratulations on a life-changing moment. Trust me when I say it can only get better from here. Spend some time asking God to show himself to you today and every day!

You’ll be glad you did!
