Sin – Stronghold – A Roaring Lion
What do sin, strongholds, and a roaring lion have in common? Plenty. All are detrimental to our well being if we are not paying attention.
“Sin gives the enemy a stronghold in our lives. Even though all legal claims Satan has against us are canceled when we choose to follow Christ, our willful indulgence of sins of the flesh is like a chink in our armor. Satan can exploit this and try to force his way back into our lives.
He is an opportunist, looking for any little crack or foothold we give him in our ignorance or self-pride. He drives a wedge, tempting us, trying to catch us in weakness, trying to entice us to give in to unhealthy desires and act out in the old nature.”
What does the Bible say?
The Bible says the enemy; Satan prowls around like a roaring lion seeking someone to devour. Check out what scripture says:
“Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary, the devil, prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour. Resist him, firm in your faith, knowing that the same kinds of suffering are being experienced by your brotherhood throughout the world.” 1 Peter 5:8-9
I don’t know about you, but I am thankful for the warning.
Complacency
Sometimes we get too comfortable in our surroundings and get complacent, thinking we do not need to be watchful.
One way to stay watchful is to remain in God’s Word. Another way is to put on the whole armor of God as outlined in Ephesians 6:10-18. We have defenses, and we need to use them accordingly.
Stay close
Don’t be like the little sheep that wandered off by himself, away from the shepherd only to be devoured. Stay close to the shepherd and listen for His voice.
