Sacrificing Children – The Fight Against A.B. 2223

“They built high places for Baal in the Valley of Ben Hinnom to sacrifice their sons and daughters to Molek, though I never commanded—nor did it enter my mind—that they should do such a detestable thing and so make Judah sin.” Jeremiah 32:35

“Do not give any of your children to be sacrificed to Molek, for you must not profane the name of your God. I am the Lord.” Leviticus 18:21

The first time I read these passages in the Bible, I was horrified at the thought that people sacrificed their live children on the altar of a false god. Why would these people think that a god they couldn’t see, touch, or hear wanted them to sacrifice their flesh and blood? Did they realize what they were doing?

But when I search the BIble for the word “Molek”, several passages warn against sacrificing children to this false god, Molek, so one can conclude that the people continued this practice, ignoring the fact that the Lord did not permit people to kill their children on an altar.  As Jeremiah 32 says, “God never commanded such actions. Yet the people continued.”

That was then; this is now.

Fast forward to 2022, and believe it or not, we have lawmakers in the U.S. pushing a new agenda – Infanticide.

Infanticide is defined as the killing of a child within a year of birth. In some societies, it is defined as killing an unwanted child after birth.

Another definition says “the putting to death of the newborn with the consent of the parent, family, or community.”

When I googled the definition, I was surprised to find several descriptions and references to this being a tribal custom. Admittedly, I didn’t know this practice occurred in remote areas worldwide. Sadly, it has made its way to the United States in 2022. Perhaps I have been living under a rock for the last 30 years that I missed this horrible practice.

In the last two weeks, infanticide has been making some news headlines, not all, but a few. Only a few are talking about this, while many are doing everything they can to make it a lawful reality. Can you believe it?

The most notable states where this is being considered or has already been considered are New York, Maryland, and California to date.

In Maryland,  a new bill (SB669) legalizes INFANTICIDE. It would open the door for babies to be killed up to 28 days after birth and strip all protections from preborn children up until the moment of birth.

In California, a bill was drafted to legalize infanticide, only they use a different word, “perinatal.”

A section of the bill says: “AB 2223 text: SEC. 7. Section 123467 is added to the Health and Safety Code to read: 123467. (a) Notwithstanding any other law, a person shall not be subject to civil or criminal liability or penalty or otherwise deprived of their rights under this article based on their actions or omissions with respect to their pregnancy or actual, potential, or alleged pregnancy outcome, including miscarriage, stillbirth, or abortion, or perinatal death due to a pregnancy-related cause.”

Right now, there are some people in California doing everything they can to make their voices heard to stop infanticide from becoming law sometime this year. Last week, a few churches gathered together, and thousands of people went to Sacramento, where this bill was being considered, and they were given one hour to voice their opposition. Despite their pleas to save newborn babies, the panel voted to send the bill to the next level.

The final health committee vote: 11 ayes, 3 no’s, 1 no vote. The bill will move forward, getting closer to becoming a law.

There is also a push to make California an abortion sanctuary state. As Pastor Jack Hibbs said, “It’s like the governor is standing there telling everyone, ‘Bring your baby here, and we will kill it for you. No questions asked.’

If A.B. 2223 passes, there is nothing anyone can do to prosecute those who kill the child after it is born as long as it’s inside the 28-day window. No one goes before a judge, not the doctor, medical facility, or parent. They choose to end the child’s life, and nothing is done.

Just when I thought the United States couldn’t sink any deeper into despair and wickedness, now we’re seeing a push to kill live babies after birth.

Right now, the Supreme Court has Roe vs. Wade on the schedule to review. Several states that lean Republican are passing abortion limitation laws to try and address the issue before the Supreme Court renders a decision. While leaders of those states are fighting for the rights of unborn babies, other state leaders are fighting to allow babies born alive to be put to death with no punishment.

Does God feel any different today than he did 4000 years ago when he first warned the people against sacrificing their children on the altar of a false god? No.

Are we exempt from God’s judgment because children today are not put on an actual altar for sacrifice? No.

Will God judge accordingly? Yes.

Sadly, the United States continues to spiral downward morally, and there’s no sign of turning around. All signs point to continued depravity.

So what can we do as individuals?

Pray!

God hears the prayers of his people, and when they pray, mountains move. There is power in prayer.  You might be someone who is persecuted for your faith, but no one can stop you from praying.

Pray for our nation and its leaders.

Pray for all those considering terminating their baby’s life before or after birth. Ask God to give them the strength and courage to put their baby up for adoption so those wanting children can adopt.

Be praying that more and more people come to faith in Jesus Christ before it’s too late.

Be blessed!
