God’s Gift to You
Did you know that God has a gift for you? Indeed he does, and it is the best gift you could ever receive. Let’s look at the following Scripture to see what gift I am referring to today.
Luke 2:8-13, “And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night. An angel appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shown around them, and they were terrified. But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all people. Today in the town of David, a Savior has been born to you; he is Christ the Lord. This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths lying in a manger.”
Imagine for a moment you’re out in the fields tending to your sheep, just doing your thing. For some, that would be hard to imagine never having worked with sheep, but let’s pretend you know what you’re doing.
You’re out in a dark field, with no street lights, watching over your flocks, keeping the bad guy away, the wolves, etc. All of a sudden, the glory of the Lord surrounds you, and an angel appears to you to deliver some very important news. Wouldn’t that would make one spill their coffee or, at the very least, their water back then?
Did you notice what the angel said to them?
“I bring you good news for ALL people.” (my emphasis on all). The angel didn’t specify a certain group of people; he didn’t say the message was only for shepherds or kings in this world. The angel said all – he meant you and me, and the Jones family down the street – all.
When God sent his Son, Jesus Christ, into the world, He sent Him for all people. We should take comfort in knowing God thought of all of us. God thought of those living then and those to come. Hence God thought of all people no matter the color of their skin or how short or tall they were. Therefore all means all.
What a gift!!! He thought of you and me!!
Do you thank God for your life?
Thank you, Lord, for sending your Son into the world as a baby, a baby that all of us can relate to having been a baby ourselves at one time. As the angels said, “Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace to men on whom his favor rests.” In your precious Son’s name, I pray, Amen.
