Shadow of the Savior – Original Lyrics

The lyrics of “Shadow of the Savior” shown below are the original lyrics by Jeanette Duby.

Over the years, I have been blessed to have random song lyrics with the melody and beat play out in my heart and mind, ultimately singing them aloud to an audience of one. It doesn’t happen every day, but it happens enough for me to record the words and the beat.

One day on a walk around the office during a break, the Holy Spirit spoke to me the lyrics and tune of the song below, “Shadow of the Savior.” I was blessed to remember the words and the way it sounded. Remembering the words and the tune is rare for me. Most of the time, I forget the words entirely, but for this song, the words and melody stayed with me till I got back to my desk.

Here’s one I recorded a few years ago:

“I stand in the shadow of the Savior.
I stand underneath His wings.
I stand in the shadow of the Savior
because I know, He first loved me.

I stand in the shadow of a Savior
I stand underneath His wings
I stand in the shadow of a Savior,
A Savior who died for me.

When I’m not feeling very worthy
When I am feeling down
I look up to my Savior
At times He’s the only one around

so I’ll stand in the shadow of my Savior
O I stand beneath His wings
I stand in the shadow of my Savior
because I know that He loves me
because I know that He loves me.

so I’ll dance in the shadow with my Savior,
yes, I’ll dance with my Savior
yes, I’ll dance with my Savior
And I’ll never let go.”

This one thing I know

I know the Lord gave me those lyrics, and I believe He smiles whenever I sing them to Him.

Do you ever start to sing songs you’ve never heard before? It’s in those quiet times with the Lord, I praise and worship Him through song. It’s an intimate encounter between my Savior and me. Those encounters are sweet memories I will always cherish.

Psalm 13:6 – “I will sing the Lord’s praise for he has been good to me.”
