The Lord is Good to All – Psalm 145:8-9

The Lord is Good to All – Psalm 145:8-9

The Lord is good to all. Amen! I especially have plenty of reasons to sing His praises. When I reflect on my life, I have so many reasons to smile when I think of the Lord.

Today, I would like to share a snippet from a time in my life that was physically painful. Every time I think about those days, I thank the Lord.

By the end of 2011, I was hobbling around. I had a herniated disc L4/5, which caused extreme pain in my lower leg, between my knee and ankle. I didn’t have any pain in my lower back, but wow, it was like walking on knives every time I took a step with my right foot.

The pain between my knee and ankle was from a nerve that runs down to your big toe. Because of the herniation, that nerve was rubbing up against the herniated disc resulting in intense pain.

Painful memories

I remember all the time I spent being wheeled around the mall in a wheelchair to buy Christmas gifts. I remember all the motorized scooter trips through Wal-mart and Publix to buy groceries and various household goods. I also remember my wonderful college graduation and the ability God gave me to walk relatively pain-free across the stage to accept my diploma.

2011 was an excruciating year for me. My family was a real trooper through that whole trial, and my friends and church family were terrific support.

I still rejoice as I share with you the glorious news of where I am at today. I had microdiscectomy surgery on Valentine’s Day, 2012. Talk about a valentine from my special love! God equipped an excellent surgeon to operate on me with much success that day.

So much success, I practically ran out of the hospital when I woke up from recovery. I felt so good and so grateful to be able to walk again – pain-free.

Soon I was going through physical therapy, which has helped me gain strength back in my legs and back. My physical therapists were wonderful, kind, and a bit pushy at times (just kidding). All those who helped me have a real gift for helping people. I’m very thankful for them and their abilities to help me get better and stronger.

And then came a little gem of a blessing – a self-published book titled, The Fruit Wars.

Who would have thought a simple email shared among friends would have grown into what it is today. I have been blessed to share my writings with hundreds of people – writings God gave me each morning before work.

What a gift!

To God be the glory for the gifts I was given in 2012. Thank you, Lord, for a beautiful year full of evidence of your existence in my life and all around me. It’s the little things that bring me great joy. I love you, and I can’t imagine you not in my life. Honestly, each year gets better than the last.

I look forward to many more great years to come unless Jesus comes back early. In the meantime, Lord, please fill me with hope, grace, wisdom, and guidance as I seek to continue to do your will, Lord. In Jesus’ name, I pray, Amen.

Psalm 145:8,” The Lord is merciful and compassionate; he is patient and demonstrates great loyal love. 145:9 The Lord is good to all, and has compassion on all he has made.”
