The Messiah would be a descendant of Jacob.
Welcome, and thank you for stopping by. If this is your first time, we are looking for Old Testament prophecies that point to the coming Messiah and their fulfillment.
Today, our search points us to another Scripture from the book of Numbers, where we find that the Messiah would be a descendant of Jacob.
Numbers 24:17, “I see him, but not now; I behold him, but not near: a star shall come out of Jacob, and a scepter shall rise out of Israel; it shall crush the forehead of Moab and break down all the sons of Sheth.”
Matthew 1:2, “Abraham was the father of Isaac, and Isaac the father of Jacob, and Jacob the father of Judah and his brothers,”
Jacob was the twin brother to Esau. Jacob was also known as a conniving kind of guy. He would deceive his father Isaac into receiving the blessing and eventually father 12 sons.
Balaam was a prophet of God. His prophecy in Numbers 24 is initially fulfilled in David but ultimately points to Israel’s future deliverer, who will be like a star that comes out of Jacob. He will bring victory.
Who is this victor? Jesus Christ.
Revelation 22:16, “I, Jesus, have sent my angel to testify to you about these things for the churches. I am the root and the descendant of David, the bright morning star.”
Hope has a name, and his name is Jesus. The world may grow darker by the day, but we have this hope.
Tomorrow, we will look at the next biblical prophecy from the Old Testament that points to the Messiah. I hope you will come back.
Blessings to you and your family!
