Responsibilities – Part 3 – LOVE, LOVE, LOVE

LOVE, LOVE, LOVE is the theme of today’s devotional.

Let’s pick up where we left off talking about responsibilities.

What are some ways we can respond to the Lord?

What are some ways we can draw closer to Him?

Look with me at verses five and six from Deuteronomy, Chapter 6:

“Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. These commandments that I give you today are to be upon your hearts.”

Where have we seen this commandment before?

We have read that in the New Testament. Jesus himself said this as recorded in Matthew, Chapter 22:37 when Jesus was being questioned by the Pharisees and Sadducees who were trying to trick him. They asked Jesus what the greatest commandment in the law was.

Look at verse 37 where Jesus responds to them saying, “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment.”

Did you see that? Jesus quoted from Deuteronomy 6:5. Do you think this is important? You bet it is!

Notice how important this is for you and me – it is to be on our hearts. This is the first and greatest commandment – Love the Lord your God! The first, not the second, not maybe or sometime later, and not something you do in passing. But the first thing you do, the most important thing you do.

Let me ask you a question – How come the most important thing we are to do is the hardest thing to do? Why is it so hard to love the Lord, our God first before that donut hole, cup of coffee, romantic interest or social media? Why do so many other things come much easier?

Next time we’re together, we’ll look at one of my least favorite things to do – losing weight and I’ll tie that into our lesson.

Until then, make every effort to do as Jesus commanded us – Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your strength.

Blessings until then my friend,

Jeanette Duby
