It’s a great day to be alive. I know it’s been a tough year. 2020 has brought more challenges than we could have ever dreamed up ourselves. But I am thankful to be here still and to have the ability to study God’s Word for hope and insight. Today, we move onto the next piece of armor – the shield of faith.
In case you are joining us for the first time, we have looked at 3 pieces of the armor already – the belt of truth, the breastplate of righteousness, and the shoes of peace.
Let’s talk about the shield of faith.
The Apostle Paul tells us in Ephesians 6:12 that our battle is not against flesh and blood, but against rulers, authorities, and powers of this dark world and the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. We’re fighting a serious enemy.
Active faith is a shield. Faith is what you “say” you believe in action. Faith is when you act like God is telling the truth.
The enemy’s strategy
The enemy sends fiery darts into our lives to distract us. He wants us so busy putting out internal fires that we take our eyes off the Lord. One thing about the shield is that it can move around and protect us from the enemy’s attacks at various angles, but you have to pick it up and use it.
The Bible has hundreds of promises for believers in Christ. These are placed within reach, which means we must do our part. We must be faithful. We need to read the Word of God to know what the Lord has promised.
I took notes on the shield of faith from an online sermon I listened to on the armor of God. Here’s what I noted:
“The shield of faith – certainty. It allows us to resist doubt. The shield of faith is one of the mobile pieces of the armor.
As you saturate yourself with the Holy Spirit of God, with the Word of God, faith covers and protects you.
The shield of faith puts out Satan’s attacks of doubt. He is constantly trying to place doubt in our hearts so we won’t have a secure footing (remember our shoes of peace) so that we fall from purity, and we are now open to his lies and drama.
James 3:5, “Likewise the tongue is a small part of the body, but it makes great boasts. Consider what a great forest is set on fire by a small spark.”
Doubt can come in from influencers in your life. The question is – who do you listen to?
Start your day with the Word of God first.”
Make sure you are protecting yourself with the shield of faith. It’s available for use, but you must pick it up and engage.
