Two Questions

heavenI was listening to a sermon the other day on my way to work. The preacher said there were two questions he liked to ask people.

  1. Do you know God?
  2. If you do, are you living as if you know God?

His point was this and I’ll try to explain it the best way I can.

Do you know God? This question is answered quite often with a resounding yes.

“I know of God.”

“I got my ticket to heaven.”

“I know God exists and I’m good to go.”

“I can live my life however I choose because I believe God exists.”

“I believe there is a god.”

It’s one thing to know God exists and entirely different thing to know God. What do I mean?

To know God is to know Him, know His ways, talk to Him, live for Him, give everything you are and have to Him. To know God is to be in a relationship with Him. This is not the same as “I know God exists.”

This leads to the second question.

If you know God, are you living as if you know him?

Some would ask,”What does that looks like?”

The answer would be – see above for a description of what that looks like.

Jesus said in Matthew 7: 21-23,

21 “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. 22 Many will say to me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name and in your name drive out demons and in your name perform many miracles?’ 23 Then I will tell them plainly, ‘I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!’

So let’s go back to the two questions above and ask yourself those questions.

What are the answers and what will you do about the answers?

Relationship – relationship-relationship – my friend it comes down to relationship.

I can study who God is. I can listen to sermons, read His word and quote scripture. It’s like knowing a famous athlete’s stats. I can know all the stats, but if I don’t know the athlete personally, I don’t really know them.

You might be thinking it’s too late for you! It is never to late to start a relationship with Jesus Christ. It doesn’t matter what you’ve done. Repent and call on his name and believe. Don’t be one of the people standing there begging for another chance. Your chance is now. Seize the moment and get to really know Jesus Christ.

In His Service,

Jeanette Duby
