Last we were together, we started on a journey to find out who the Bible says Jesus Christ was, is, and is to come. I mentioned there are typically three thoughts about Jesus that one might consider true about Jesus. Those people are not alone in their beliefs because the Bible tells us many didn’t believe Jesus was who he claimed to be.
For centuries, many have wondered if this man named Jesus was a lunatic, liar, or the Son of God?
For those of you who don’t know where I stand, I believe Jesus Christ is the Son of God. I believe what the Bible says about Jesus Christ.
Lists, lists, lists
So I sat down and made a list of all the references to Jesus Christ, both in the Old Testament and New Testament of the Bible. I have yet to finish my list, and it’s already five pages long.
Allow me to share some more of what I discovered. We are continuing where I left off from the last time we were together. Check out part one of this series to catch up. Who is Jesus Christ? I Wanted To Know
Knowing more information about Jesus Christ, especially if you have never read the Bible, will be, I believe, beneficial. As I write this, I am reminded of a prior boss who was older than me, and she had never read the Bible. Fifty-seven years old, and she never read the Bible herself. She attended church all her life and had no idea what the red letters were in the Bible.
She isn’t the only one. Many people have never read the Bible yet have strong opinions about its accuracy. Rather than pretend I know many things about the Bible, I choose to read every word myself. I’ve read the Bible in its entirety two times, and I am almost finished reading it a third time. I get something from reading Scripture all the time.
Living and active
The Bible is alive, mysterious, and full of God’s love letters to the world. It’s a book that outlines broken people, redemption, grace, everlasting love, and forgiveness. The Bible tells me what is to come, so I am not surprised by what I see. The Bible encourages me to be ready for whatever comes my way.
The Bible also tells me that I am not alone in my struggles to make the right decisions, abstain from hurting people, and experience life and loss. Real people like me experienced the same struggles, which gave me hope.
With all that said, let’s take another look at who the Bible says Jesus Christ is – the Son of God.
- He drew large crowds.
- Compassionate
- Taught us how to pray
- Taught in parables
- Rejected by his people, the jews
- Walked on water
- Predicted his death
- Knew Old Testament Scriptures
- He paid taxes
- He fed 1000’s
- He talked to everybody
- Jesus knew the future
- Blind men called him the Son of David
- He was born sometime between 6 and 4 B.C. The exact year is debatable among scholars.
- Died in A.D. 30 – Again, an exact date depends on the year born because he lived 33 years.
- Would be called Immanuel
- Herod wanted to kill him
- Demons knew who he was and feared him
- The prophet Isaiah prophesied about His coming hundreds of years before his birth.
- John the Baptist prepared the way for him
- He paid the price for our sin on the cross
There’s still more
Next time we’re together, I will share Old Testament passages and their New Testament counterpart that show the prophecies about Jesus and the fulfillment of those prophecies!
I hope you will join me on our expedition through the Bible to learn more about Jesus Christ.
Blessings!
