Last we were together we pretended to be sheep
Now that you have pretended to be a sheep, let’s talk about what can happen when you really do wander away from the herd.
Questions to consider
What happens when a sheep wanders off alone? Who or what is out there prowling around? What trouble could a lonely sheep get into? Is the grass really greener on the other side?
Benefits of a group
When sheep stay in a big group, there’s protection. Two things protect them- one being the group itself and the other being the shepherd.
When sheep are in a big group, they have company, they are taken care of. Sheep do not have to worry as much about predators. Sheep can do sheep things. But when a sheep wanders away, they wander away from the protection, they leave the group benefits behind. They now wander out in the big field alone risking life and limb.
Remember the barbed wire?
In a previous post, I shared about my brother getting bit by the barb wired? Sheep can get bit as well, and sometimes they can be devoured.
When we wander away from the protection of our Heavenly Father, we flirt with danger. Like sheep, we can be led astray. Like sheep, we can fall over the cliff. Our legs can be chewed on, or even worse, we can be devoured by the enemy.
We have a real enemy
The enemy entices us, and he longs to lead us away from our Heavenly Father.
Have you ever wondered why Satan doesn’t go after lost people? They’re already lost.
What does lost mean? It means we have not accepted Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior, thus separated from God and we will spend eternity separated from God and be lost forever. We have not asked Jesus into our hearts and made Him Lord of our lives.
What’s the point?
Satan’s aim, his target is believers, people who believe in Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior. Satan desires to lead believers away, keep them busy doing non-kingdom things, tempt them or even worse, devour them.
The Bible says, “The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.” John 10:10
Who is the thief? Satan. The one who wants us to have the abundant life is Jesus Christ.
Let’s pray
Father, help us stay close to you. Lord, may your hedge of protection always surround us and keep us safe. Father, the grass may look greener on the other side, but Father you know it leads to a dead end. Lord, my prayer is if we know anyone who has wandered away from the herd, Lord we pray they come back quickly. And Lord if we know people who have never been part of the herd, who don’t know Jesus as their personal Lord and savior, God we pray for them too. In your Sons name I pray all these things, Amen.
