Great Joy From Pool Adventures

Great Joy From Pool Adventures – Proverbs 3:13-15

Can you experience great joy from pool adventures? Yes, you can. If you have been following along, there was a reason for taking a 100 foot plus tree down from my backyard many years ago. I had a dream plan in mind of installing an above ground pool for my daughter and I. After all, my yard was plenty big to receive it, we lived in Florida, and the best part of an above ground pool – it was free from the neighbor. They didn’t want the hassle (clearing throat sound), I mean, they wanted to share the extreme enjoyment that comes from owning your own above ground pool. They wanted to see the children laughing and playing.

You have to remember, there is a great joy that comes from owning a pool, and an extra special joy when it is above ground. Little did I know, I would get to experience all that joy and then some. How generous of them to want to bless me with it. It was a huge blessing to inherit a free above ground pool. It saved me hundreds of dollars.

All I had to do was fancy myself something to get in and out of it. A simple ladder to get in and out of the pool was not going to suffice. We’re in Florida people – the land of sunshine! There had to be a sunning deck – a place for this fair-skinned, red-headed, freckle-faced, can’t stay in the sun too long – I cook like lobster meat person, to get thirty minutes of sun rays before going back inside the house. How’s that for complete justification?

It works for me!

And so began, the construction of a deck that semi-circled the pool at above ground pool height.

I must say that deck was one of my prouder constriction moments. It’s no wonder I have back trouble today when I think about the deck and all the support beams I hoisted into place by myself, all the wood planks I nailed down, and the staircase I built to get to the top. And let me not forget the fence I made, which was only about two feet high around the pool for the sole purpose of doing one thing – keeping my dog away from the pool.

Did I ever mention to you I had a miniature pincher back then who LOVED TO DIG? No? Hold that thought till tomorrow.

In the meantime, the book of Proverbs has another lesson for me. I need to refamiliarize myself with it.

Proverbs 3:13- 15, “Blessed is the man who finds wisdom, the man who gains understanding, for she is more profitable than silver, and yields better returns than gold. She is more precious than rubies; nothing you desire can compare with her.”

Dear Lord, thank you for my life, and thank you for the gifts you have given me. In Jesus’ name, amen.
