Given everything happening in today’s world, I think we must continue learning about Jesus’ life. If you missed the other blog posts on Jesus’ life and the background information we’ve been studying, please check out the links below.
We have been looking at multiple areas of Jesus’ life. Others want to know more about Jesus. Who is this man millions of people worship?
Are the Gospel accounts accurate?
“Is the information in our Gospels historically reliable and trustworthy?
Here’s what my college text says, “Christians who lived prior to the eighteenth century viewed the Gospels as historically reliable pictures of the life of Jesus. Their main problem in describing His life was to harmonize the facts of the four Gospels to produce a smooth flow of events.
Many current New Testament scholars accept the fact that the Gospel accounts of Jesus’ life are an authentic abridgment written by passionate proponents of Christianity who selected their material to compel faith in Christ.
The differences among the Gospels do not imply error or creation of material, but all reflect different arrangements and presentations in order to convey meaning.
The Gospel accounts are not always written in a strict chronological order, but they should receive complete trust as documents that correctly proclaim the redemption in Christ and urge us to place our faith in Him. The Gospel accounts of the life, death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus provide a trustworthy foundation for our faith in Him.”
There you have it – straight from the textbook.
Allow me to share where I stand surrounding the gospels and their accuracy.
I believe the Word of God is the absolute truth, and I accept it by faith. I do not understand everything the Bible says, nor can I answer all the questions others pose. However, I am comfortable with the idea of not having to know. Why? Because one greater than me knows better – Almighty God.
Let’s pray.
Father, thank you for the four Gospel writers- men you inspired to share what they experienced and witnessed in Jesus’ day. The gospel writers give us a true insight into the life and ministry of your Son, Jesus, allowing us to become intimately familiar with Him. Thank you, Lord, and it’s in His name we pray, Amen.
Blessings!
