Jesus Christ – Disciple’s Names for Jesus

Jesus Christ – Disciple’s Names for Jesus

Hello, and thank you for joining me on this journey to get to know more about the man named Jesus Christ. The purpose of today’s lesson is to look at the various names used by the disciples when referring to Jesus.

I have been studying the Gospel of John, which is found in the New Testament, and I found something interesting I thought I would share with you.

Grab your Bibles.

Today, we look at the specific names used by the disciples to describe Jesus as well as John the Baptist.

Let’s begin.

John the Baptist – “Lamb of God” – John 1:29, 36

Andrew and an unknown disciple – “Rabbi” which means Teacher  – John 1:38

Andrew – “Messiah (that is, the Christ)” – John 1:41

Philip – “Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph.” – John 1:45

Nathanael – “Rabbi” and “The Son of God” and “The King of Israel” – John 1:49

In just a few short verses, the disciples, as well as John the Baptist, called Jesus names. Not bad names, but proper names.

When I read the disciple’s descriptions, I get the feeling these guys had been waiting a long time with high expectations for the Messiah to come, and their excitement is evident. Who they have been waiting for has finally arrived. How exciting that must have been. How excited are you to one day see Jesus face to face?

Next time we’re together, we will look at Chapter one again and dig a little deeper into the life of Christ.

Thank you for joining me, and I pray you have a great rest of the day.
