Verse Of The Day – Bread Of Life

Recently, I was shopping for some non-wheat bread. I mistakenly thought a loaf of white or even Italian bread would be wheat-free. To my surprise, both contained wheat flour. I couldn’t find a single loaf in the bread section without wheat flour. Apparently, the only non-wheat options in the grocery are located in the frozen section. I learned something last week.

Our verse of the day comes from John 6:35.

“Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life; whoever comes to me shall not hunger, and whoever believes in me shall never thirst.”

I don’t think Jesus is talking about wheat bread.

The Israelites wandered through the desert with Moses for 40 years. The bread provided to them at that time was temporal. They experienced a feeding miracle in the desert, but they didn’t realize it was pointing to the Messiah, Jesus, the True Bread of God.

The Bread from heaven was spiritual and eternal, not physical or temporal.

Jesus is far superior because he gives eternal life.

Their fathers ate the manna in the desert for 40 years. In their minds, that miracle was far superior to any miracles Jesus had done so far. Jesus shocked them when he told them it wasn’t real bread they received. Now he shocks them a second time by announcing that he was the Bread the Father had given.

Jesus Christ is the only permanent satisfaction for human desire in life. But this hinges on belief, meaning you need to accept him as Lord, or you will never be truly satisfied in this life.

Let’s pray.

Father, thank you for today’s lesson. I pray, Father, that if someone does not know Jesus as their Lord and Savior, today would be the day they ditch the processed bread and accept the True Bread, your Son, Jesus. In His name, I pray, amen.

Blessings!
