Daily Devotional – What’s the Condition of Your Faith?

In today’s devotional, we ask the question, “What’s the condition of your faith?”

Matthew 8:10-12, “When Jesus heard this, he was amazed and said to those following him, “Truly I tell you, I have not found anyone in Israel with such great faith. 11 I say to you that many will come from the east and the west, and will take their places at the feast with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob in the kingdom of heaven. 12 But the subjects of the kingdom will be thrown outside, into the darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.”

Jesus was amazed by the faith of the Centurion. (Matthew 8:8-9)

What’s a Centurion? A career military officer in the Roman army with control over 100 soldiers. Roman soldiers, of all people, were hated by Jews for their oppression, control, and ridicule. Yet this man’s genuine faith amazed Jesus.

Who are the “many” in the passage above? All the faithful people of God will be gathered from the four corners of the earth to feast with the Messiah (Jesus).

Who are the “subjects of the kingdom?” They are the Jews who thought their Judaism was an inherited passport for entry into the kingdom.

Jesus’ message is for everyone. The Old Testament prophets knew this, but many New Testament Jewish leaders chose to ignore it.

Bottom line?

Each individual has to accept or reject the gospel, and no one can become part of God’s kingdom based on heritage or connections. Having a Christian family is a blessing. Going to church with your grandmother is a beautiful thing, but neither will guarantee you eternal life.

You must believe in and follow Jesus Christ. It’s an individual decision.

If you choose to deny Christ, you will be thrown into the darkness where weeping and gnashing of teeth occur.

Another name for the darkness? Hell.

Weeping and gnashing of teeth? Metaphors for when God will judge all unbelievers accordingly.

Today, do not harden your heart when you hear His voice.
