Who Needs A Doctor? Healthy Or Sick?

Bible Study Shorts

Matthew 9:11-13, “When the Pharisees saw this, they asked his disciples, “Why does your teacher eat with tax collectors and sinners?” On hearing this, Jesus said, “It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick. But go learn what this means: I desire mercy, not sacrifice. For I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners.”

The sick need a doctor, and Jesus healed them; likewise, the sinful need mercy, forgiveness, restoration, and Jesus healed them.

The Pharisees were more concerned about their own appearance of holiness than with helping people, with criticism than encouragement, with outward respectability than practical help.

God is more concerned for all people, including the sinful and hurting – you and me.

“Those who are self-righteous do not recognize their need for salvation, but admitted sinners do.”

Is there an example for me to follow from the above teaching of Jesus Christ?

Yes.

  1. Recognize that we are sinners and need a Savior.
  2. Acknowledge and admit we don’t have all the answers.
  3. Share the gospel with the poor, immoral, lonely, and outcast, not just the rich, moral, famous, and influential.
  4. Don’t isolate yourself from a broken world, but extend God’s love to others.

Until next time…
