Purpose – 3 – Colossians 1:16

Good morning everyone. I hope your night was a restful one.  Now that you have had a few days to ponder whether you’re a stump or a flourishing tree or somewhere between let’s continue to move forward on purpose.

Sometimes, these devotionals are like taking a 7-day cruise around the Caribbean, and other times they are like short jaunts in a lake. Both are pleasurable, and both have their purpose – for you to have some relaxation time and ponder the deep meaning of life. For others, it’s about neither,  but to have a good time away from shore and all that represents. And that’s ok too.

Allow me to remind you of something today – it all starts with God.

Colossians 1:16 says, “For everything, absolutely everything, above and below, visible and invisible,…everything got started in him and finds its purpose in him.”

For example

Rick Warren starts Chapter 1 of his book -“It’s not about you. The purpose of your life is far greater than your own personal fulfillment, your peace of mind, or even your happiness. It’s far greater than your family, your career, or even your wildest dreams and ambitions. If you want to know why you were placed on this planet, you must begin with God. You were born by His purpose and for His purpose.”

The first statement Rick Warren makes is it’s not about you. To some, that statement may be shocking and insulting. What do you mean it’s not about me? I thought the universe revolved around me? Don’t our kids exhibit that mindset sometimes?

Tomorrow, we’re going to dive deeper into Colossians 1:16 and explore it a little bit. In the meantime, have a super day and rest in the fact that your Heavenly Father loves you very much.

Lord, we thank you for today and for being alive. We thank you that you created each of us with and for a purpose. In Jesus’ name, we pray, Amen.

Blessings!
