When I was teaching at Student Life Camp years ago, a specific question came to mind that I asked my class:
What direction are you headed, and what direction are you leading your best friend?
I followed it with this next question:
What direction is your best friend leading you?
Think about your best friend for a moment. Do you have that person pictured in your mind? You do? Great!
Now ask yourself this question – What direction are you leading them? What direction are they leading you?
Strange question, I know, but a valid one.
Are you leading your best friend in the right direction; down the right path, or are you leading them in the wrong direction; down the wrong path?
Whether we realize it or not, we tend to lead our best friends in a specific direction through the advice we give, the invitations we extend, the opinions we express, and our likes and dislikes.
Here’s an even more complex question regarding your best friend: Are you leading your best friend to Jesus Christ? Are you pointing them in His direction?
And more importantly – is Jesus Christ your best friend?
Consider today who your best friend is.
What direction are they heading? Ask yourself if your best friend is leading you toward Jesus Christ or away from Him.
We don’t want to follow folks who are going away from Jesus. We want to follow folks who are headed toward Jesus.
Why?
Because Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life, and no one can get to the Father except through him.
Jesus Christ wants to be everyone’s best friend. He loves us so much that He died on the cross for you and me.
“For God so loved the world, that he gave his one and only Son that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” John 3:16
I hope Jesus is your best friend.
