The Armor of God – The Sword of The Spirit

Next up – one of my favorites – the sword of the Spirit. This is the only piece of armor Paul actually describes in Ephesians 6:17. He says, “Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God.”

The sword of the Spirit is the only offensive weapon. Not as in “I’m offended by what you said,” but similar to playing offense in sports. The Word of God, also known as the Bible, doesn’t need to defend itself. You will not see God defending his existence in the Bible. The other weapons are defensive weapons, but not the sword of the Spirit.

For this weapon to be successful in our lives, we must use it. We must be in the Word of God. Not only should we be in the Word of God, but we must use the Word of God as truth. This battle is spiritual, and it must be fought in God’s strength using the weapons he has provided.

Note time.

Let’s look at the notes from the online sermon I listened to a few months ago on the armor of God for additional insight.

“The sword of the Spirit – the power of the sword – utilize it.

We are not in a defensive position. The gates of hell will not prevail against the sword of the Spirit.

A gate is a defensive position. We are engaged in the battle.

Hebrews 4:12, “For the Word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.”

The Bible cuts through the lies and impurity, establishing secure footing. In the midst of the battle, deploy the Word of God, the sword of the Spirit.

Victory in the battle is realized when we stand; when we utilize the Word of God; when we look at the Holy Spirit’s provision.

“The intensity of your faith is irrelevant if the object of your faith is wrong.”

Final thought.

Some of us are fighting with the wrong tools, the wrong way, and with the wrong weapons. It’s like going to battle with one arm tied behind your back while trying to wave a noodle in the air. Do you want sauce with that?

In the midst of the battle, we must keep our eyes on Christ and wear the armor of God.

What this world needs most is Jesus!”

Blessings!
