The Armor of God – We Need to Pray

Welcome. If you have been following along, we have spent the last several days looking at the armor of God. We have looked at all the pieces of armor the Apostle Paul describes in Ephesians 6:12-18. Today, we look at the last piece of armor, which isn’t something you put on, but something you do – pray. Today we are going to talk about prayer.

But before we dive into prayer, let’s review the pieces of armor we have covered in this miniseries:

  • The belt of truth
  • The breastplate of righteousness
  • The shoes of peace
  • The helmet of salvation
  • The shield of faith
  • The sword of the Spirit

Together these make up the armor of God as described by the Apostle Paul in the last chapter of Ephesians.

What’s the connection?

To close out our review of the passages from Ephesians, I think it’s important to look at what ties them all together, and that is prayer.

Ephesians 6:18, “And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people. Pray also for me, that whenever I speak, words may be given me so that I will fearlessly make known the mystery of the gospel, for which I am an ambassador in chains. Pray that I may declare it fearlessly as I should.”

What should we do?

Pray, pray, pray with the help of the Holy Spirit. Pray whether casual, formal, quick, long, short, brief, informal, driving in your car, walking down the street, or at home in your closet or your room. Spend time throughout the day, every day talking to God – praying.

We must put on the whole armor of God because the enemy, Satan, is the real deal. But here’s the good news –  God has not left us unprotected. God has supplied the armor. You do not need to go to the store or order it online from Amazon. God has supplied everything we need. We need to do our part and wear the whole armor of God faithfully and daily.

Lets’ close this miniseries with prayer.

Father, we thank you for who you are. We thank you for providing the armor we need to battle against the enemy. You know the enemy well, and you know best what is required to defeat him and his attacks. Lord strengthen us daily for the battles we face and help us to remember to seek you with our whole heart daily. You alone, Lord, are the giver of life, and you are our defender.  Help us stand firm on the foundation of truth as we live in a dark and chaotic world. Lord help us to shine our little light in the darkness so others can see Jesus. In His name, I pray all these things and thank you, amen.

Thank you for joining me for this miniseries. If you have missed our study on the various pieces of armor, please check out the links below. We seek to serve the Lord with our whole heart and point people to Jesus daily.

Stand firm in the faith! Suit up. Stay alert. Stay close to the Lord.
