I know I am repeating myself, but this message is worth repeating. These days, maybe now more than ever, God’s children are to be watching, waiting, and getting ready for the Lord’s return. After all, the Lord could return at any moment.
Sound strange? Maybe, but think about it for a moment. Hasn’t 2020 been the strangest, most eventful, unplanned, unprecedented year ever in your life? It has for me. I never saw any of this coming. The changes in my life this year were unplanned, some good, some not so good.
I suppose one could say that about years past, but this has definitely been the year for unexpected in my life, and I suspect in yours too.
Despite all that, every day, I am to be faithfully watching and waiting for the Lord’s return. I am to be ready for the Lord’s return. But as I watch, wait, and ready myself, I am also to speak the truth in love, give to the poor and needy, and not waste time or think Jesus Christ is delayed – thus shrugging off the responsibilities Jesus himself has given according to Scriptures.
The Lord is faithful and able to do everything. I wait with excited expectation as I continue to pray for, encourage, and teach others about the blessed hope we have in Jesus Christ.
I have to remind myself that if only a few respond, it is not a reflection on me, nor am I being rejected. As the Lord tells Samuel in the Old Testament, it is God the people are ultimately rejecting. Each person must respond personally. It’s a decision each must make themselves. It’s not a group decision.
Let’s look at the Bible.
In reading Luke, chapter 12:1-48, in my quiet time, I learned some things to help me remember the bigger picture.
It’s important to look at the big picture, especially in these unprecedented days we’re living in – the year 2020. If I had a dollar for every slogan I have seen about 2020, I’d have quite a few dollars.
As I studied these passages, I wrote down a few things that I wanted to share with you.
Ready? Let’s go!
1. Money isn’t the end all be all to this life.
2. Don’t worry. We can’t add a single hour to our life by worrying.
3. Be ready for the Lord’s return.
4. Be watching for the Lord’s return.
5. Do for the kingdom with what you have been given, and the Lord will bless your efforts.
In other words, we are to be kingdom focused as we wait for the Lord’s return. We are to have a kingdom mindset.
Has 2020 been good for anything?
If there’s one thing this year has done for me, it has helped me focus more intently on kingdom living. Despite everything, one thing became crystal clear – I needed to read God’s Word more frequently and more intently. If I am to survive the ups and downs of this life, I need an anchor that can hold.
The Bible tells us what’s to come. I believe there’s a lot more still to come. According to the Bible, if you thought 2020 was eventful enough, we haven’t seen anything yet. Check out the book of Revelation.
I want to encourage you to get into God’s Word. Maybe you are already reading the Bible, God’s Word, as your daily bread. That’s great!
If not, it is not too late to start. Get yourself a good paper Bible and start reading. I recommend starting in the gospel of John in the New Testament. You are welcome to go right to the end of the Bible, Revelation, and read the end first.
God’s Word is the anchor in my life, and it can be the anchor in yours as well as we ride out the rest of 2020 together.
The Lord’s return can happen at any moment. We must be ready to go! I hope you are ready!
Blessings!
