Have you ever walked on a treadmill? Perhaps you’ve seen others walk on a treadmill and wondered how easy or hard it was. Anyone I have ever seen on a treadmill doesn’t look like they are having much fun with all the huffing and puffing and sweating going on. It’s true. But think for a moment what a treadmill does. It continues in the same direction over and over until we push the stop button.
We play tapes in our minds like a treadmill. We play the same messages over and over again until we push the stop button. Both negative and positive tapes can play in our minds.
Too often, the negative tape plays, and after a while, we start to believe it. It’s like the treadmill effect. When we have stayed on the treadmill for a while, we start to sweat. We start to experience a change in our breathing pattern, and sometimes we grab the bars and hold on.
It’s the same thing with negative thinking. Sometimes we grab hold, and we don’t let go. This was true of me years ago. Today, I still struggle a wee bit.
Can I encourage you today to get off the negative treadmill and jump onto the positive one?
Can I encourage you today to change the tape in your brain from negative to positive?
In Philippians 4:8, Paul writes these words, “Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable – if anything is excellent or praiseworthy – think about such things.”
We have to program our minds and put in good things, true, noble, right, pure things. We’re surrounded today by things that are not good and pure. The technology age has bombarded us with negative things; it’s hard to get away from it all. But there are good things out there we can use to change the tape in our brains.
Lord, I pray today that if someone struggles with negative thoughts about themselves or things aren’t going well today, Lord, they would change the tape in their minds. I pray they would jump onto another treadmill and ride for a while. Lord, you are a great one to focus our minds on today. In your Son’s name, I pray, Amen.
