Talking Tools – A Creative Way to Share Jesus

In honor of a dear woman who devoted her life and heart to Jesus, we are sharing a little tool she used titled, “Talking Tools – A Creative Way to share JESUS With Others.”
Lynn Latham was her name, and she was a North American Missionary Evangelism Director for the Greater Orlando Baptist Association in the Central Florida area for many years.
Lynn never shied away from bars and strip clubs. She was on a mission to make sure the people who worked in those places received the good news of the gospel too. She also ministered to many other women over the years, many of who lived in women’s shelters. I had the pleasure of knowing Lynn for a few years, and I quickly learned she would go to the ends of the earth for Christ.

Following are the excerpts from the little brochure she used to share Jesus with others. I love the ideas contained in this little brochure because they are items we are all familiar with.

The way the talking tools work is to choose an item of your choice, print the Bible verse related to it, attach it to the corresponding item, and hand it out to people you want to share the good news of Jesus with. It’s a great way to break the ice.

Let’s look at several examples.

Action Figures: Item – superhero figures

Bible Scripture: “I pray that from His glorious, unlimited resources He will give you mighty inner strength through His Holy Spirit.” Ephesians 3:16

Band-Aid: Item- bandaid

Bible Scripture: “For I will restore you to health and I will heal you of your wounds.” Jeremiah 30:17

Bears: Item – bag of Teddy Graham cookies, a small teddy bear

Bible Scripture: “You did not choose me, But I chose you and appointed you to go and bear fruit – fruit that will last.” John 15:16

Candy: Item – M&M candies

Bible Scripture: “and showing mercy unto thousands of them that love me and keep my commandments.” Exodus 20:6

Chess game: Item – small chess game

Bible Scripture: “These people all trusted God and as a result, they won battles…and received what God promised them.” Hebrews 11:33

Clean: Item – soap, antiseptic lotion, hand sanitizer

Bible Scripture: “But if we confess our sins to him he is faithful and just to forgive us and to cleanse us from every wrong.” 1 John 1:9

Clippers: Item – men’s travel personal care set, nail clippers

Bible Scripture: “Let Him (Jesus) have all your worries and cares, for He is always thinking about you and watching everything that concerns you.” 1 Peter 5:7

Games, Toys: Item – jack sets

Bible Scripture: “I rejoice in your word like one who finds a great treasure.” Psalm 119:162

Gold coin: Item – a $1.00 gold coin

Bible Scripture: “They are more precious than gold, than much pure gold.” Psalm 19:10a

Lifesaver: Item –  a wrapped lifesaver candy

Bible Scripture: “For God so love the world that he gave his one and only son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” John 3:16

What a fun and unique way to share the gospel message with others.

Another idea is to make several and leave them in grocery stores, in restaurants, coffee shops, or at gas stations – any place people go. You can get these items from Oriental Trading, Dollar Tree, and any other dollar store. You don’t have to spend a lot of money on talking tools to share the good news. Maybe you have some creative ideas yourself. That’s great!

Sharing Scripture is a great way to introduce people to the Lord. Talking tools was just one of the ways Lynn Latham reached out to others.

Join us next time as we share more talking tools from Lynn’s handy little brochure. Check out part two of this blog tomorrow!

Blessings and happy sharing!
